Room For A Little One?

The situation...

This summer, my brother and I are swapping rooms ,which means that I get the bigger room while he is away at university (yay). This means that I can redecorate it however I want to, and by doing this, I will projectile vomit my personality into the room (perhaps not the best metaphor...).

I don't want this room to be minimalist because I think that would just be too boring, and I'm in a position where it's not my only option (which I am very thankful for). I have ideas in my mind about how I want it to look, and I've seen some great rooms, lots of inspiration and websites/shops to buy these things but I have a problem and this is when (hopefully) you step in...

The ideas...

I'm rubbish at explaining things so all I will do is leave links to websites/shops/videos etc. that fit the themes I am looking for (but in a short explanation: white and pastel colours).

Firstly, there is an amazing shop called Sass and Belle, who do quirky home decor and home furnishings that I absolutely adore. I saw this when I went to Covent Garden (London) on 10th July 2015.

Next, a classic UK based shop which I'm sure that lots of British people have heard of, called Cath Kidston. This is quite an expensive shop but they do lots of things that are (kind of) similar to Sass and Belle.

Paperchase is technically a stationary shop and I'm a big sucker for stationary. But they do a few homey things as well.

Finally, here are some YouTubers whose rooms I have seen in videos that have also inspired me somewhat:

1. ellawelly
She did a video called "Tumblr Room Tour" which is less than two minutes long but from the overview she did of her room, there were lots of things in which I was like "ah, that's so cool!" and "where did she get it?". Ella is a British YouTuber who makes quite artistic videos, some that are very kickthepj-esque. I mentioned Ella in my first post saying how she inspired me and this is one of the reasons why. (Edit: Unfortunately, a few months after this post was created, Ella decided to private this video, which is a shame as it was literal goals!)

2. claycupcakes4
Now, this one is slightly different to the rest because her room is not the same as the others that I will mention, but it's still cool and I felt that she deserves a shout out here. Cassie is an American YouTuber who generally makes D.I.Y. videos and craft videos. Her room I would describe as more "kawaii" which I think is quite cute. She did a video of her room back in 2013 which I will link below!

3. doddleoddle
Dodie doesn't have a particular room tour as such but if you check out some of her videos, the background of her room is simply wonderful. I don't think I can say much more about her but check out some of her videos (also she's amazing at pretty much every instrument going) (also also "doddleoddle" is the cutest name ever).

PJ is an amazing talented artist who has two room tours which I love. I especially love his Domo and BMO merch because I think that they are super awesome (I'm running out of adjectives...). I will link to them below! He also did a video called "My Bedroom Sucks" in which you see glimpses of his room (which I will also link to below which I'm guessing you already knew).

Again, Amy doesn't have a particular room tour as such, but the backgrounds to her videos are of her bedroom and I know for a fact that some of the decor is from Sass and Belle! Amy is a booktuber who reviews books (obviously) and as a book lover myself, we have quite a bit in common.

If anyone has any ideas about places where I can get stuff for my new room, any comment would be very much appreciated. If you would like you can become a true heart.

See you next time!

Emily :D

Clichéd Beginnings...

"This is the start of something new"

The more observant humans amongst you - my fine readers - may have realised that the 'quote' above my head is actually a lyric from the High School Musical song Start of Something New. While you are correct, it's actually a reference to This by Ed Sheeran. I don't know why I'm mentioning this. To show how authentically honest I am? To show you that you can trust me to tell you the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth? Who knows? But, I'm flinging that information at you like monkeys flinging poop. I mean, what?

Nice to meet you (where you been?). Are those lyrics copywritten? If so, please don't sue me, Taylor Swift, I make a grand total of no money on this.

If you've gotten this far into the post, I applaud you (I live for the applause, applause, applause) (I need to stop with the references) (and the parentheses). This has turned into a car crash of a first post and I shall move on (Taylor) swiftly...

In the beginning, Emily created...

A history lesson for those who love to know about origins. A modern history lesson, if you will.
A very modern history lesson. As in, this began yesterday.

It all started on a sunny Friday afternoon (3rd July 2015) on my last day of college before the summer holidays. I could lie and say I was outside enjoying the sunshine and the beauty of life and I felt inspired to document it for future generations to see and marvel at. Wouldn't that have been such a lovely (if not unorginal) story?

Instead, I was indoors, on my laptop, like the true internet person I am, and felt bored. The light bulb above my head went *TING*!

'Let's start a blog, it looks easy enough.'

(Oh, how naïve I was...)

The plan was simple!

Create a blog name:

Easy. 'True hearts' being a reference to the Ed Sheeran song Grade 8 ("Be a true heart, not a follower"). Yes, that is, indeed, another reference to Ed Sheeran - you'll want to start getting used to those if you continue to read my blog posts. 'Blue stars' because, firstly, blue is my favourite colour, and because I wanted a geometric shape to match the hearts. I love stars, and it (half-)rhymes with hearts, so the name was thus created.

Find a blog template I liked:

From bloggercandy.com

After trawling through the internet for a while, I stumbled upon "Blue Love Letter". It perfectly matched the aesthetic that I was aiming for (I'm a pastel-loving, cutesy, chic, polka-dot queen!). It even has hearts! So, it stole my own heart, and became the decided-upon blog theme!

Upload the template:

The blog you are looking at now, pre-this post. Meta.

Now, THAT was a challenge that almost gave me an induced headache, and I'm truly not someone who experiences headaches very often. This blog and Tumblr deal with two of my (admittedly many) weaknesses: coding. I don't know much about HTML and XML documents. To me, those are just a bunch of letters and computing stuff I have little understanding of. After much Googling, frantic tweeting and a billion attempts of changing the code, I finally got it to work. If it breaks in the future, well, at least it lasted for as long as it did.

Create the first post:

Well, that is a work in progress.

The purpose of the blog was to entertain the internet with my witty humour, my obscure references and create something that I'm proud of. It's working so far, right?

I'm still getting used to the ins and outs of this website but, hopefully, it will all be worth it. Although, let's be honest, if the rest of my posts are like this one, I'm in trouble.

25 Facts About Me!

It would be kind of weird to be reading this post/blog and not know anything about who I am. Either that, or I have too much of an ego to resist the temptation of talking about myself. Here it goes... *breathes in deeply*
  1. My name is Emily.
  2. I was born on 5th June 1998. This makes me 17 *shivers*.
  3. I'm British (but have never had a cup of tea. I know, the British embassy will be picking up my passport in due course).
  4. English is my favourite subject.
  5. My favourite singer is Ed Sheeran. But you already knew that.
  6. My favourite book is The Curious Incident Of The Dog In The Night-Time by Mark Haddon, which I saw at the West End in August 2014 (I loved it - it was amazing).
  7. My favourite song is Angels by The XX.
  8. My favourite programme is Not Going Out, a British comedy show.
  9. I absolutely love reading books, watching films, listening to music and watching YouTube videos. These are a few of my favourite things.
  10. I judge books by their covers...
  11. I love white and pastel colours (my favourite being blue, pink and yellow).
  12. December is my favourite month because of the Christmas festivity that surrounds it, and it gives me an excuse to stay indoors watch films, read books and everything else I love under the comfort of blankets.
  13. I love odd numbers (and, yes, I did make sure that that would be an odd-numbered fact).
  14. I am the worst procrastinator I know!
  15. I have a really sweet tooth. Mmm.
  16. I was inspired to start a blog from the YouTuber "ellawelly" (http://ellawelly.blogspot.co.uk/). Thank you Ella :D

  18. I have blue eyes.
  19. I have extremely thick, blonde hair.
  20. My dad one met the magician, Dynamo. Oh wait, it needs to be about me again... I once had a lucky bracelet that I wore everyday until I went to a beach, gave it to my mum for safekeeping and she lost it (this was on the same day my dad met Dynamo) (and my mum got stung by a wasp) (and it was my mum's birthday).
  21. I spent too much time on the internet. (Who would have guessed?)
  22. I would one day love to go to America, Australia, Canada and New Zealand.

  25. Lastly, I have lots of social networking sites you can follow me on (links are at the top of my blog) (shameless self promo).

Thanks for reading this and sticking with me until the end. Hopefully my posts will get better as I progress (I'm still learning). I'd feel grateful if you became a "true heart" with me (but don't feel you have to).

I'll see you next time.
